Many Positives Taken From North Florida Game

Well, there is a lot to talk about. You can click on the link to see who the MVP was. First, North Florida was a great shooting team. They are weak at rebounding because their center is out with a broken ankle.

What I liked after breaking down the film:

Maturity – They did not play to the crowd and stuck with the game plan. Go inside and paint touch and attacked the rim.

Fifth-Year Seniors – The L & L boys are adjusting to a new style and getting better and better. An absolute privilege to coach them.

Big Men – Nanu is maturing, but still has a ways to go. He knows the game and as his stamina improves, so will his performance. Ray Spalding had a great night. We knew Jaylen and Anas could not defend their power forward because he plays more like a small forward.

Ray’s hands and quickness were a game-changer. Mangok brings great energy and an improved low post-game. Excellent defender.

Scouting – The team is learning how to focus and attack the other team’s weaknesses. Humble people respect the strengths of others. This is a very humble group that’s having fun playing the game.

Fast Break – Scoring on the break at a very high percentage. The better the defense, the more efficient in transition.

Louisville First – It was such a pleasure to see everyone so happy about Ray’s success. That’s what Louisville First is all about.

Deng will be out for 2-3 weeks. Fred Hina is the best in the game at getting people back at 100%. Hope to have him play in one or two J.V. games before he’s ready. We have to get Donovan and Jay Henderson ready to play some small forward.

I did not hear Kyle’s message during the game but listened after. Just made me feel so relieved and excited.

I am not sure at this point how good we can be, but if attitude and togetherness are any indicators, it’s a very positive sign.

Will check back in on Wednesday with a St. Francis report.

The future is very bright with these young men. Anas, Matz, Jaylen, Deng, Ryan, Donovan, and Ray will all improve dramatically as they get seasoning and strength.
